ice group secures spectrum in Sweden
6 February 2018 – ice group subsidiary Netett Sverige AB (Net1) has won the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority’s frequency auction for the national license of 2 x 5 MHz in the 450 MHz band.
The term of license is from 5 March 2020 up to and including 31 December 2044.
“This is excellent news for Net1 in Sweden. To obtain the license until 2044 provides the foundation we need to continue developing our mobile broadband offering inSweden,” says JD Fouchard, CEO of ice group.
Net1 and Telia were the two approved bidders in the 450 MHz auction.
Among the license conditions is a requirement to cover 80 percent of the area in each Swedish county with mobile broadband services offering a downlink bitrate of 5 Mbit/s and an uplink bitrate of 128 kbit/s, of which Net1 already fulfills both.
“Now we can continue our expansion in the machine-to-machine (M2M) market. This also allow us to invest more into the growing IoT segment. The 450 MHz band’s unique coverage and indoor penetration characteristics position Net1 as a leading IoT challenger through the lifetime of the license,” says Linus Jönsson, managing director of Net1 in Sweden.
Net1 is a wholly owned subsidiary of ice group.
